Statement:

I am fascinated by how humans adapt, build, destroy, decorate, and cultivate their surroundings and the impact this has on the global environment.  The rapid pace at which people are changing the world both excites and disturbs me.  New ideas, technologies and physical materials in the form of consumer goods are spread around the planet as the global "market" expands.  In my art practice I use a variety of media to explore the relationship of people to their actual (physical) and perceived (mental) surroundings.  My current body of work, titled Boxed In, is a series of sculptures that examine the produce-consume-discard cycle.  Work from this series can be see on my website at www.ianobanion.com.
