Terra Goolsby is a multi-media artist that draws upon mythologies, mysticism, science fiction, religious lore, and psychology. Her current work adapts narratives of female characters with leviathan-like qualities. With a focus on the unbridled and primordial nature of these characters, her work harbors an aesthetic that is both dangerous and sensual. She acquired her BFA at the University of Texas of Austin and her MFA in Sculpture at the Rhode Island School of Design. She has been an artist in residence at West Dean College of Sussex University in Chichester, England, Vermont Studio Center, and I-Park Foundation in New Hampshire. Her work has been exhibited in Texas, England, New York, Rhode Island, Boston, and Connecticut.

I am a multi-media artist that draws upon mythologies, mysticism, science fiction, religious lore, and psychology. My work connects old narratives and new cultural assessments of female sexuality while investigating the integration of creation and destruction, interiority and exteriority, collectivity and singularity, as well as strength and vulnerability. It’s beauty and politics delve into darker aspects of femininity that lie concealed, dormant or just beneath the surface such as the predatory and the seductive. I currently adapt narratives of female characters with leviathan-like qualities whose struggle symbolises a confrontation with social norms. With a focus on the uncompromising, unbridled and primordial nature of these creatures, my work harbors an aesthetic that is both dangerous and sensual.
