"American Artifacts" series
Text on pedestal reads: Fetishes such as these can be found throughout America. They are believed to contain powers which can go into people's bodies to conclude periods of illness. The Americans perceive illness as a condition in which tiny, invisible creatures from the air invade their bodies and take control. They believe that the powers of their fetishes go into their bodies and battle the tiny creatures, which must be killed for health to be regained. These fetishes are regarded as the givers of health.
