Sandstone

The City Hall Park, Hamilton, Scotland $30,000 These two figures were carved out of sandstone, which is indigenous to Scotland. The theme involves two women doing their laundry and sharing the chores, gossip, and the space where they are working, which historically happened not right down by the river. Their overall abstract shapes were created to replicate the shapes of the pathways that wind around the grass and flowerbeds in the park. They are mounted on granite and they are typical of the clean line I strive for in my sculpture. This commission was awarded to me after an intense competition, whereby the people living in Hamilton (near Glasgow) voted for their favorite sculpture from an exhibition of maquettes.
