disposable diapers Exhibited: Auckland Art Gallery, NZ. At nearly 40 sq feet the woven new disposable diaper Canvas was created for the fundraising final show at the Auckland Art Gallery prior to its redevelopment. Through media, form and context, Canvas explores the depths of 'support' for and by a public art gallery. Overlapping individual rectangular units present the warp and weft of a prepared ground - the support for painting, enlarged. The mute white field reveals small details on close inspection: micro-grids, elastic reinforcement, tiny marine creatures, and an exposed vulnerable edge. Stretched over and around the wall, Canvas vacillates between being soft and taut, protective and threatening, austere and visceral, inviting and repelling.
