American Dreaming

5' tall x 10 ' x 40"
Wire, Welded Steel, Rubber

The interwoven fabric made from ripped lengths of tire rubber and electrical construction wire in "American Dreaming" is meant to evoke the dual-message of our consumer culture mythology (the American Dream of endless acquisition) on one hand it is alluring and seductive from a distance, but showing the nightmarish discomfort when given closer examination. The horror and unintended consequences of our lifestyle makes uncomfortable our self-made bed on which we ultimately try to rest for an unsettling sleep.
