Baltimore Oriole
2012
21 width x 72 height x 18 depth

This piece came together after discovering this cherry slab, where the grain is simply beautiful on both sides it screamed to stand tall and in the middle of a room. Proudly holding two oil on gessoboards on each side, their asymmetrical placement suggests movement of the Baltimore Orioles. I had seen one in our yard just weeks after acquiring the cherry slab, and so named this piece after learning sighting of these birds is very rare. The dime slice of a tree adds a strong base for the cherry to stand in. Two amber LED module lights cast a subtle light onto the sides of the cherry, and in a dimly lit room, onto the walls and ceiling creating a soft mood. two oil on gessoboards (9h x 12 w), cherry wood slab, two amber LED module lights
