Stainless Steel

“Tops 1” and “Tops 2” are two site-specific sculptures commissioned by the Colorado Springs Urban Renewal Authority for installation at a busy traffic intersection. The interrelated works are designed to converge in a V shape at the base and fold out in the upper sections. The shape is reminiscent of a child’s toy top. Each artwork is tilted at a different angle in order to give the impression that the sculptures are spinning on the pedestals. Although the two sculptures are structurally similar, the steel forms within each sculpture are folded at varying angles in order to enhance the illusion of movement.
