Artist Statement

Core is constructed entirely of hand-knit, interlocking hexagons. Though its shape and scale link it to contemporary installation, its material and process connect to a communal tradition beyond the gallery. Created during workshops at a public library, Core, which is large enough to enter, reflects how we interact with public space, individually and as part of a group. Walking through it, viewers weave around other bodies, aware of each otherís proximity and presence. This experience, like knitting with strangers, allows for dialogue and sharing.
