Shirley Wagner graduated with a fine art degree from Youngstown University in Ohio. Early on she developed a love of form. For three decades she has been fabricating assemblages in her Tucson, Arizona studio. In the last two years, she has shifted her focus to abstract figurative sculptures.
With my figurative metal sculpture, I translate emotion via the human form. With the push and pull of shapes that rotate, project and redefine space, a narrative unfolds. The narrative addresses a host of emotions including joy, vitality, fortitude, fear, isolation or despair. With this action, I discover a visual language which speaks to the humanity in all of us.
