International Sculpture Center Celebrates its Third International Sculpture Day
The International Sculpture Center (ISC) established International Sculpture Day (IS Day) in 2015 as an annual celebration held worldwide on April 24 to highlight the creation and appreciation of sculpture and its unique, vital contribution to society. This program has been made possible through generous donations by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts.
The inaugural International Sculpture Day brought together more than 50 events over 12 countries and an estimated audience of 30,000. The 2nd International Sculpture Day grew, bringing together more than 200 events over 20 countries and an estimated audience of 100,000+. #isday streamed live throughout the weekend with an outreach of over 2 million impressions. Each year IS Day expands exponentially with a projection of 300+ events with an audience of 300,000+ in 2017.
Each year the ISC hosts its own event with an aim to create a connected community with the unified goal of championing sculpture. In celebration of its 3rd year the ISC will be hosting a publication booth (#P3) (April 21-24th) at Artexpo New York to educate the public about sculpture. Along with a booth, the ISC will be hosting a talk with Glenn Harper, editor of Sculpture magazine on Monday, April 24th at 11:00am in Artexpo's Education Pavillion. "Writing Sculpture..." A panel discussion with Sculpture magazine's editor Glenn harper along with Joyce Beckenstein & Robert C. Morgan, both contributors to Sculpture Magazine. The writers will give you an inside look on what it means to write about and for sculpture. Glenn Harper is the editor of Sculpture magazine, and former editor of Art Papers. Robert C. Morgan holds an MFA in Sculpture and a Ph.D. in Art History. An author of several books and monographs in many languages, Morgan functions as a scholar, artist, art critic, and Contributing Editor to Sculpture Magazine. Joyce Beckenstein is a writer living in New York and a contributing to Sculpture Magazine. For more information on IS Day visit www.sculpture.org/isday.
In addition to our booth ISC will host a TASK Party. TASK is an improvisational art event created by artist Oliver Herring in which participants of all ages and backgrounds join together to create and complete tasks with everyday materials. A TASK Party gives community access to contemporary art in a way that is innovative and accessible. No two TASKs are alike - each event is shaped by the flow and momentum of the participants and materials. Participants will transform provided materials into impromptu and shared sculptural experiences. The TASK Party will take place at Mana Contemporary on Sunday, April 30, 2017 from 2-5 pm and is free and open to the public. To register to attend or to learn more about TASK, visit www.sculpture.org/isday/task. For more information, contact (609)689-1051 x311 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
