    From October 25-28, 2018 the 28th International Sculpture Conference will seek to bring together a diverse audience of artists, educators, arts administrators, museum directors, collectors, patrons, students, and sculpture enthusiasts to discuss exciting topics in contemporary sculpture.

    Join us in Philadelphia for this unique conference offering three days of engaging programming.

    Doris SalcedoDoris Salcedo

    Doris Salcedo (b. 1958, Bogotá) lives and works in Bogotá. Recognized since the early 1990s as one of the leading sculptors of her generation, her work has been the subject of numerous solo exhibitions including Le Creux de L'Enfer, Thiers (1996); The New Museum of Contemporary Art, New York (1998); Tate Britain, London (1999); MUAC, Mexico City; Moderna Museet, Malmö and Centro de Arte Moderna - Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, Lisbon (2011); MAXXI Rome; and Pinacoteca do Estado, São Paulo (2012).

    Her highly regarded large scale public installations include Noviembre 6 y 7, The Palace of Justice, Bogotá (2002), The 8th International Istanbul Biennial (2003), Abyss, Castello di Rivoli, Turin (2005), Shibboleth, Turbine Hall, Tate Modern (2007), and Acción de Duelo, Plaza de Bolívar, Bogotá (2007).

    Her work has been included in numerous group exhibitions: Carnegie International 1995, Carnegie Museum, Pittsburgh; Displacements: Miroslaw Balka, Doris Salcedo, Rachel Whiteread, The Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto (1998); History/Memory/Society, Tate Modern, (2000); Eztetyka del sueño, Palacio de Velasquez, Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia, Madrid (2001); Abyss: T1 Triennial of Contemporary Art, Castello di Rivoli, Turin (2005); The 80s: A Topology, Museu Serralves, Porto (2007); and América Latina: arte y confrontación, 1910-2010, Museu del Palacio de Bellas Artes, Mexico City (2010-2011).

    The artist has also participated in several international biennials, such as Roteiros, XXIV Bienal de São Paulo, Brazil (1998); Trace, The Liverpool Biennial of Contemporary Art (1999); and Documenta 11, Kassel (2002). She was the recipient of the Ordway Prize (2005), the Premio "Velázquez" de las Artes Plásticas (2010) and the 9th Hiroshima Art Prize (2014). A retrospective of her work opened in 2015 at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago and traveled to the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York and the Pérez Art Museum, Miami. Harvard Art Museums opened a solo exhibition of her work in November 2016.

    From October 2017 to April 2018, Palimpsest, an installation by Salcedo, was on view at the Palacio de Cristal, Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia in Madrid.
